Michigan PTA and National PTA develop legislative action alerts to give members the ability to have their voice heard in Lansing and Washington D.C. There are many legislative issues that impact our children's education. These Action Alerts are a tool to have our voice heard to benefit children.
The Seizure Safe Schools Act (HB 4970) is running out of time and we need your help! Reach out to the Senate Education Committee and request that the committee hear testimony and take up HB 4970 in September!
We want to reach the finish line this year and in order to make that happen, we must get a timely hearing and vote in the Senate Education Committee.

The Let MI Kids Learn DeVos voucher effort failed to meet a deadline to make the November 2022 ballot last week. While this was an important victory in the fight against these deceptive measures, the issue is not going away. DeVos and Company’s plan all along was to submit signatures to have the Michigan Legislature approve these measures without going to the ballot. They can and likely will submit signatures later this month.
Michigan PTA is working to educate voters and our legislature about this petition campaign to take money away from public schools and funnel it to private schools and outside programs.
You can do something to defeat this petition campaign, so that it does not become law without being voted on as a ballot measure by the public.
WE ARE ASKING YOU TO CONTACT YOUR STATE LEGISLATIVE OFFICIALS TO TELL THEM THAT THIS PROPOSAL SHOULD NOT BE VOTED STRAIGHT INTO LAW.
Please watch this brief video to hear parent and student voices in response to Michigan voucher initiatives.
Contact your Representative and Senator today to insist that our country needs sensible solutions to gun violence and gun violence prevention.
As our nation shifts towards recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and grapples with the ongoing school safety epidemic, Congress must act now to address the current youth mental health crisis, the gun violence traumatizing our school communities, increase access to the federal child nutrition programs, and invest in our children and our public education system.
