State-Level General Committees

  • Awards

    Creates, reviews, revises, and administers the state awards program.

  • Children's Advocacy

    Monitors legislation and activity state and nationwide. Coordinates Advocacy Day events, outreach, alerts, and advocacy communications.

  • Communications and Public Relations

    Coordinates social media, publications, presentations, and public interactions. Works with branding.

  • Convention Site Selection

    Researches and coordinates site selection for the Convention including negotiating contracts.

  • Convention Management

    Plans and oversees the Annual Convention. Coordinates with Awards and other committees.

  • Diversity and Inclusion

    Researches, develops, and administers diversity and inclusion programs and initiatives.

  • Family Engagement

    Develops Family Engagement programs, resources, and events.

  • Field Service

    Provides support to Units and Councils including training, Standards of Affiliation guidance, and program information.

  • Federal Legislative Chair

    Acts as liaison and primary contact on federal issues and communications with National PTA.

  • Fund Development

    Establishes non-dues revenue strategy beyond membership dues.

  • Health and Wellness

    Researches and develops resources on health and wellness including programs and services.

  • Kinship Care

    Researches and develops resources surrounding kinship care for children cared for by relatives or close family friends.

  • Leadership Development

    Researches, plans, and executes the training program for state membership and works to develop a leadership pipeline.

  • Local Bylaws Committee

    Annually reviews local bylaws templates and makes appropriate changes to align with State and National bylaws.

  • Membership

    Researches, develops, and administers membership challenges and recruitment programs. Coordinates membership chair training.

  • Michigan Men in PTA

    Develops, coordinates, and administers programs designed to increase male involvement in PTA.

  • Outreach

    Initiates start-up of local units and councils and provides mentorship.

  • Programs and Services

    Oversees promotion of National and State programs.

  • Reflections Committee

    Researches, coordinates, and publicizes state-level Reflections program activity including informing local chairpersons of changes and developing the state recognition event.

  • Region Director

    Coordinates field service representatives and member services for the region.

  • Resolutions

    Researches, composes, and presents position statements to the Board of Directors to be memorialized by the Convention as resolutions.

  • Strategic Planning

    Develops long-term vision, planning, and goals to increase the reach and impact of the mission.

  • Youth

    Develops, coordinates, and administers programs for the education, participation, and encouragement of youth.

Board Committees

These committees are comprised solely of Board Members and Officers appointed by the Board of Directors.

  • Budget and Finance

    Creates, oversees, and reviews the state budget including providing audit information to the Convention and regular updates to the Board of Directors.

  • Bylaws and Standing Rules

    Reviews and corrects the bylaws for the association. Reviews, suggests, and revises job descriptions and committee descriptions.

  • Crisis Management

    Oversight of short-term response to state-impacted events including natural disasters, violence in schools, and global pandemics.

  • Headquarters

    Oversees the management contract and headquarters facility.

Specialized Committees (Ad Hoc)

These special committees are appointed by the Board of Directors and may be temporary, perpetual, or have unique term limits.

  • Nominating Committee

    Elected by the Convention body to vet candidates for Officer, Board, and Committee positions. 3-year term.

  • Scholarship

    Comprised of Past Presidents. Reviews applications for the Fran Anderson Scholarship.
